Introduction
MY Bharat, formally known as Mera Yuva Bharat, is a Government of India initiative that connects young people with volunteering, experiential learning, leadership development, mentorship and nation-building opportunities.
History and Background
The Union Cabinet approved the establishment of Mera Yuva Bharat as an autonomous body on 11 October 2023. Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched the MY Bharat platform on 31 October 2023, coinciding with National Unity Day.
MY Bharat was created as a technology-driven framework for youth development and youth-led development. It brings young people from rural, urban and semi-urban communities together through a “phygital” ecosystem combining digital access with participation in physical activities.
The initiative is designed primarily for young people aged 15–29, consistent with the definition of youth under India’s National Youth Policy. Certain program components may also involve adolescents aged 10–19.
Mission and Purpose
MY Bharat aims to empower young Indians to become community leaders, social innovators and active contributors to national development.
Its principal focus areas include youth leadership, volunteerism, experiential learning, civic participation, employability, mentorship, social innovation, community service, educational equity, practical skills and digital inclusion.
The platform seeks to align young people’s aspirations with community needs, improve coordination among government youth programs, create a centralized youth database and strengthen communication between young citizens, public institutions and partner organizations.
MY Bharat also seeks to promote Seva Bhav, or the spirit of service, and Kartavya Bodh, or awareness of civic duty, while engaging young people in the vision of a developed India by 2047.
Governance and Structure
MY Bharat is an autonomous body under the Department of Youth Affairs within India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. It serves as an apex institution for youth development, engagement and nation-building.
The organization is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. Its governance structure includes a Board of Governors, executive leadership and administrative personnel working at national, state and district levels.
Government ministries, departments, educational institutions, National Service Scheme units, youth clubs, nonprofit organizations and participating businesses can register as partners and publish eligible activities on the platform.
Designated officers at educational institutions verify students participating in experiential learning opportunities. Partner organizations are responsible for delivering approved activities, providing necessary training and recording attendance or completion information.
Funding and Grants
MY Bharat is financed through allocations from the Government of India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Public funding supports the digital platform, field administration, youth engagement campaigns, training, volunteer activities and national programs.
MY Bharat is not primarily a grantmaking foundation, scholarship provider or employment portal. It functions as an enabling platform connecting young people with opportunities offered by government departments, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations and businesses.
Registration and applications for experiential learning programs are free. The official platform states that these opportunities generally do not carry a stipend, and participants may need to meet their own travel or related costs.
Some campaigns or partner-led opportunities may provide certificates, awards, project support or other benefits. Applicants should review the conditions of each individual listing before participating.
Major Programs and Initiatives
The Experiential Learning Programme connects young people with practical learning opportunities in government institutions, businesses and nonprofit organizations. Participants can gain exposure to professional roles, community issues and workplace practices.
Volunteer for Bharat enables registered youth to participate in community service, public-awareness campaigns, environmental activities and nation-building initiatives.
The MY Bharat Profile allows young people to document their participation, skills, achievements and service activities. Its CV Builder helps participants organize their experience into a professional profile.
Mentorship opportunities connect young people with professionals and subject-matter experts who can offer guidance related to personal, educational and professional development.
Quiz and Essay modules enable government departments and partner organizations to conduct knowledge-based competitions, public-awareness initiatives and youth consultations.
MY Bharat also hosts national initiatives such as the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue, Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect, Viksit Bharat Padyatra, Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat and youth-focused civic participation campaigns.
The MY Bharat mobile application, launched on 1 October 2025, expanded mobile access to volunteering, leadership, learning and community-engagement opportunities.
Impact and Examples of Work Supported
By October 2025, MY Bharat had crossed 20 million youth registrations. The platform had also connected more than 16,000 youth-club members and over 60,000 institutional partners while facilitating more than 1.45 million volunteering opportunities.
MY Bharat participants have engaged in road-safety campaigns, voter awareness, environmental sustainability, community service, public policy discussions and educational activities.
The platform helps young people build soft skills, understand how public institutions operate, connect with peers and mentors, and access information concerning education and scholarship opportunities. However, the government clarifies that MY Bharat is not a dedicated skill-development or employment portal.
Through partnerships with ministries, educational institutions, businesses and nonprofit organizations, MY Bharat provides a national digital infrastructure for coordinating youth participation and expanding access to structured learning and volunteering opportunities.
