Wipro Foundation: Supporting Education, Healthcare, Ecology, Disaster Response and Sustainable Community Development in India

Dated: July 31, 2026

Introduction

Wipro Foundation is the Corporate Social Responsibility entity of Wipro Limited. Based in Bengaluru, India, it supports initiatives in education, primary healthcare, ecology, disaster response, and cities and public spaces.

The Foundation works toward building a humane, inclusive, equitable and environmentally sustainable society through grants, institutional partnerships and employee engagement.

History and Background

Wipro’s corporate citizenship initiatives extend back more than two decades. Wipro Foundation was formally established as a trust in April 2017 to implement the company’s CSR programmes.

Its work is complemented by Wipro Cares, an employee-led trust established in 2002 after employees responded to the Odisha cyclone and Gujarat earthquake. Wipro matches employee contributions to Wipro Cares on a one-to-one basis.

Mission and Purpose

Wipro Foundation addresses systemic social and environmental challenges through long-term partnerships with civil society organisations.

Its principal priorities are:

  • Improving public and inclusive education
  • Expanding education for underserved children
  • Strengthening primary healthcare
  • Protecting ecology and urban natural resources
  • Supporting disaster-affected communities
  • Building inclusive cities and public spaces
  • Encouraging employee volunteering
  • Strengthening nonprofit organisations

Governance and Structure

Wipro Foundation operates as a trust and implements Wipro Limited’s CSR commitments. Its trustees include:

  • Narayan P S – Managing Trustee
  • Anurag Behar
  • Saurabh Govil
  • Aparna C. Iyer
  • Vikrant Gupta

The Foundation follows Wipro’s CSR policy and publishes programme disclosures and impact assessments to promote transparency and accountability.

Funding and Grants

Wipro Foundation provides grants through partnerships with nonprofit and civil society organisations. Grant seekers can register and apply through its online grants portal.

Funding is available in four principal areas:

  • Education
  • Healthcare
  • Ecology
  • Disaster response

Applicants may be required to provide organisational registration documents, audited financial reports, annual reports, tax filings, child-protection policies and other compliance records.

Funding decisions consider alignment with Wipro’s values, organisational capacity, programme relevance, financial accountability and potential social impact. Grant amounts and application periods vary by programme.

Major Programs and Initiatives

  • Systemic Education Reform: Supports civil society organisations working to strengthen public education systems.
  • Access to Education: Improves learning opportunities for children from disadvantaged and marginalised communities.
  • Wipro Education Fellows: Supports early-stage education organisations and their full-time founders or leaders.
  • Wipro earthian: Promotes sustainability education among schools, colleges and young people.
  • Primary Healthcare: Supports quality healthcare services in disadvantaged communities located near Wipro offices.
  • Urban Waters: Brings communities and institutions together to address water-related challenges in Indian cities.
  • Disaster Response: Supports long-term rehabilitation and recovery after natural disasters.
  • Wipro Cares: Mobilises employee donations and volunteering for education, healthcare, ecology and community initiatives.

Impact and Examples of Work Funded

Wipro Foundation works through nonprofit partners rather than implementing every programme directly. Its support has contributed to:

  • Teacher development and public-school improvement
  • Inclusive education for children with disabilities
  • Community and school libraries
  • Primary healthcare and nutrition services
  • Ecological restoration and water conservation
  • Disaster recovery and community rehabilitation
  • Capacity development for education NGOs
  • Sustainability education in schools and colleges

More than 45,000 Wipro employees have engaged with Wipro Cares through donations, volunteering or both. Wipro Cares volunteers have also planted 6,500 mangroves in the Sundarbans over a three-year period.

Conclusion

Wipro Foundation is an important Indian corporate foundation supporting education, healthcare, ecology and community resilience. Its grantmaking approach emphasises long-term partnerships, institutional capacity, accountability and systemic change.

Eligible nonprofits and civil society organisations can monitor the Foundation’s grants portal for current funding opportunities and application requirements.
