The King’s Awards for Enterprise

Dated: June 26, 2026

Introduction

The King’s Awards for Enterprise are the United Kingdom’s most prestigious official business awards, recognizing outstanding achievements by businesses and organizations in innovation, international trade, sustainability, and promoting opportunity through social mobility. Originally established in 1965 as The Queen’s Awards to Industry, the awards were renamed The King’s Awards for Enterprise in 2023 following the accession of King Charles III. They are administered by the UK Government and are awarded annually to organizations that demonstrate exceptional business performance and positive societal impact.

Background

The King’s Awards for Enterprise celebrate organizations that contribute significantly to the UK economy through innovation, sustainable growth, exports, and inclusive employment practices. Award recipients receive national recognition and are invited to a Royal reception. Winners are also presented with the award by the local Lord-Lieutenant, may use the official King’s Awards emblem on their products and marketing materials, and hold the award for five years.

Award Support

Rather than providing direct financial grants, the King’s Awards offer:

  • National and international recognition
  • Royal endorsement and prestige
  • Official trophy and Grant of Appointment
  • Invitation to a Royal reception
  • Permission to use the King’s Awards emblem for five years
  • Increased business credibility and brand visibility
  • Enhanced export and investment opportunities
  • Greater media exposure and networking opportunities

Many recipients report increased commercial value, wider market access, improved staff morale, and stronger business growth following the award.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible applicants generally include:

  • UK-based businesses
  • Nonprofit organizations
  • Public sector organizations
  • Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
  • Large companies

Organizations must generally:

  • Be based in the UK, Channel Islands, or the Isle of Man
  • Have at least two full-time UK employees (or equivalent)
  • Be self-managed and maintain their own accounts
  • Demonstrate good compliance with government regulations and tax obligations
  • Show strong environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices

Applications are accepted across five award categories:

  • Innovation
  • International Trade
  • Sustainability
  • Promoting Opportunity through Social Mobility
  • Young Founder (introduced from the 2027 awards)

Benefits and Impact

For more than five decades, the King’s Awards have recognized thousands of outstanding UK organizations, helping them strengthen their reputation, expand into international markets, attract new customers, and build strategic partnerships. The awards are widely regarded as a mark of excellence and have become a benchmark for business success and responsible enterprise in the United Kingdom.

Conclusion

The King’s Awards for Enterprise represent the highest official recognition for business excellence in the United Kingdom. By celebrating innovation, international trade, sustainability, and social impact, the awards encourage organizations to pursue excellence while contributing to economic growth and social progress. Receiving a King’s Award enhances an organization’s reputation and provides long-term recognition both nationally and internationally.
