Dated: December 19, 2025

Introduction – Overview of the DERBI Foundation

The DERBI Foundation (Dayananda Sagar Entrepreneurship Research & Business Incubation Foundation) is a not-for-profit technology business incubator based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, dedicated to nurturing and scaling innovative startups and deep-tech ventures. Established in 2015, the foundation operates as a Section-8 company, fostering an ecosystem where entrepreneurs can transform ideas into scalable businesses through structured programmes, mentorship, funding support, and industry linkages.

History and Background

  • Origins and Establishment
    • The DERBI Foundation began as an initiative within the Dayananda Sagar Institutions (DSI), rooted in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) started in 2009 to promote student and faculty entrepreneurship. Over time, the demand for a broader, community-oriented incubation ecosystem led to the formal establishment of the DERBI Foundation as a Section-8 organisation in 2015, supported by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), and other government bodies.
  • Evolution of Ecosystem Support
    • Since its inception, DERBI Foundation has grown to become a premier incubation partner for startups in sectors such as healthcare, MedTech, SaaS, EdTech, and deep tech, supporting early ideation through to later-stage acceleration.

Mission and Purpose

Governance and Structure

The DERBI Foundation operates as a not-for-profit Section-8 company, governed by a council that includes industry experts, investors, founders, and ecosystem leaders. Its leadership includes a Chairman of the Governing Council, Managing Director, and a team of professionals dedicated to incubator operations and startup enablement.

The organisation’s structure emphasizes strong governance, ecosystem collaboration, and alignment with national innovation initiatives, making it credible with government and industry partners.

Programs and Startup Support

    • PACE is a structured pre-incubation programme lasting 3–4 months that helps early-stage innovators validate ideas, refine business models, and begin on the entrepreneurial journey using methodologies like the Stanford Bio Design approach and expert mentoring.
  • Incubation: GALLOP

    • EMERGE is the foundation’s flagship acceleration programme for later-stage startups — particularly in digital health and healthcare innovation — helping founders fine-tune products, scale revenue models, and connect with investors and strategic partners.
  • Lab & Ecosystem Support
