Xiaomi Imagery Awards: Celebrating Mobile Photography and Visual Storytelling

Dated: September 14, 2026

Introduction

The Xiaomi Imagery Awards is a photography competition organized by Xiaomi to recognize creative visual storytelling produced using Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO mobile devices.

History and Background

Xiaomi launched its international imagery competition to provide mobile photographers with a platform for sharing original perspectives, personal stories and creative interpretations of everyday life.

The awards have developed into a global initiative involving professional photographers, photography enthusiasts and Xiaomi users. The competition reflects Xiaomi’s wider investment in smartphone imaging technology and accessible creative tools.

The provided link is Xiaomi’s India regional competition portal. Xiaomi also operates a global awards platform, with the 2026 edition presented as the “Xiaomi Imagery Global Awards Curated with Leica.”

Mission and Purpose

The Xiaomi Imagery Awards aim to encourage people to explore visual storytelling through mobile photography.

The program seeks to demonstrate how smartphone cameras can be used to document communities, cultures, landscapes, relationships and everyday experiences. It also provides photographers with international exposure through Xiaomi’s websites, galleries, social-media accounts and promotional platforms.

The competition emphasizes originality, technical ability, composition, lighting, emotion, creativity and overall image quality.

Governance and Structure

The Xiaomi Imagery Global Awards 2026 are organized by Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software Co., Ltd., a company within the Xiaomi corporate group.

A seven-member Contest Committee oversees the competition, interprets its terms and conditions, reviews submissions and selects entries for the final judging stage.

A separate jury of seven members evaluates shortlisted photographs. Entries are assessed according to subject, composition, lighting, emotional quality, creativity and technical quality.

Regional portals, including the India platform, may operate alongside the global competition and may have separate rules, deadlines, award categories and prizes. Applicants should therefore review the terms published on the specific portal through which they intend to enter.

Funding and Awards

The Xiaomi Imagery Awards are funded by Xiaomi as a creative competition rather than a conventional grant program.

The 2026 global edition provides monetary prizes across four award categories. The Annual Best Work Award offers USD 20,000 to one winner. Seven Theme Gold Award recipients receive USD 4,000 each, 21 Theme Creation Award recipients receive USD 1,000 each and seven Judges’ Choice Award recipients receive USD 3,000 each.

Each winner may receive only one prize. Monetary awards may be subject to applicable taxes, duties or withholding requirements in the recipient’s country.

Participation is voluntary and free, although entrants remain responsible for internet or connection expenses.

Major Programs and Initiatives

India Regional Awards

The India regional portal provides photographers in India with access to Xiaomi’s imagery competition and related submission information.

Regional editions may recognize images that reflect Indian culture, communities, landscapes and everyday experiences while showcasing the creative capabilities of mobile photography.

Because regional rules can differ from the global competition, applicants should verify the applicable dates, categories, technical requirements and prizes directly through the India portal.

Xiaomi Imagery Global Awards 2026

The global 2026 competition accepts entries from February 28 to October 11, 2026. Winner selection and announcements are scheduled between October and December 2026.

Entrants may submit photographs through the official competition portal or by posting public images on Instagram with the designated hashtag, #XiaomiImageryGlobalAwards2026. Email submissions are not accepted.

Photography Categories

The 2026 competition includes an Annual Best Work Award, Theme Gold Awards, Theme Creation Awards and Judges’ Choice Awards.

Participants may enter one or more applicable categories. The Contest Committee initially selects 250 photographs, after which the jury determines the final award recipients.

Eligibility and Entry Requirements

Participants must have reached the legal age of adulthood and possess full legal capacity in their country or territory of residence.

Entrants must have a personal Mi Account or a valid registration on the relevant Xiaomi website, along with an active email address.

Employees, contractors and people directly involved in organizing the competition, together with specified family members, are excluded from participation.

Photography Requirements

Submitted photographs must be original and taken exclusively with Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO mobile phones.

Each image must contain EXIF information and have a file size between 300 KB and 50 MB. Third-party editing software may be used, but images automatically generated by artificial intelligence are not permitted.

Entries must not have previously won another competition. Photographers must own the copyright and secure appropriate consent from identifiable individuals appearing in their photographs, including consent from a parent or guardian when minors are depicted.

Submission Process

Participants using the global contest portal may submit up to 50 entries during the competition period, with as many as 25 images uploaded in a single submission session.

Each entry requires a title, description, selected theme, email address and display name. Entrants using Instagram may submit public posts carrying the official competition hashtag.

Applicants should carefully review the intellectual-property provisions before entering because submission grants Xiaomi and related parties extensive rights to display, reproduce, distribute, adapt and use selected photographs.

Impact and Examples of Recognized Work

The Xiaomi Imagery Awards have helped establish mobile photography as an accessible form of visual expression by allowing participants to create competition-level work without conventional professional camera equipment.

Previous editions have attracted photographers from numerous countries and generated a substantial international collection of mobile images. Selected photographs have documented people, architecture, nature, travel, cultural traditions and everyday moments.

The official gallery and Xiaomi’s communication channels provide selected photographers with exposure to international audiences. The awards also encourage users to develop practical skills in framing, lighting, timing, composition and narrative photography.

The collaboration with Leica for the global competition connects Xiaomi’s mobile-imaging platform with established photography expertise and strengthens the program’s focus on technical and artistic quality.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi Imagery Awards provide mobile photographers with an opportunity to share original visual stories, gain international exposure and compete for monetary recognition. Applicants should confirm whether they are entering through the India regional portal or the global competition because eligibility rules, categories, deadlines and prizes may differ.
